School of Pharmacy

School of Pharmacy

Pharmacists are now essential to team medicine, playing an important role to propose the best medicine for each patient in cooperation with doctors and nurses. Furthermore, as the needs for community medicine, such as home care and palliative medicine, have increased, pharmacists whom patients can rely on for consultation are in demand. The School of Pharmacy aims for the development of rich humanity that patients can trust, as well as highly professional ability and advanced medical knowledge, in a rich study environment.

Main Academic Achievements

Starting from liberal arts, and progressing to the basics, application, and clinic of the specialty. Emphasizing outcome-based education, our curriculum is structured for students to acquire not only expertise, skills, and attitudes in pharmacy and medicine, but also the ability to care for and communicate with patients, and the qualities that lead to a research mind and a medical mind.

Department of Pharmacy

At the site of medicine, doctors, pharmacists, and nurses are engaged as a team to provide patients with up-to-date treatment. Among them, pharmacists, as experts in medication, take a critical part in proper and optimal medication. In April 2006, the School of Pharmacy at Shujitsu University shifted to a 6-year program of pharmacy education. In order to cultivate practical ability for clinics, we make efforts to improve the medical and pharmaceutical education which includes ethical and practical education as well as the education that enables students to actively engage in pharmacotherapy.

Three Department Features

Our academic support is well-established with pre-enrollment education, remedial science, and supplementary classes as well as the national exam preparation course starting from the lower grade to help students overcome their weak subjects. We employ a small class system, and classroom teachers support students in their studies and daily lives.

Students will acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for medical professionals through studies at the Center for Clinical Pharmacy Practice, which is just like a real site of medicine, and through a variety of field experiences in cooperation with medical institutions. Communicative competence, one of the qualities necessary for pharmacists, is also cultivated through practical classes to develop human resources who play important roles in team medicine.

Students will have a wide range of employment opportunities, including hospitals and dispensing pharmacies where they can work as pharmacists, and pharmaceutical companies and administrative organs where they can utilize their knowledge of pharmaceutical science. Approximately 1,000 job are open annually, and many students find employment in the workplace as desired.

The Acquisition of Knowledge and Skills

Ability and knowledge as a pharmacist trusted by both doctors and patients and as a key player in advanced medicine with expertise and human skills. These are developed through " basic pharmacy," "applied pharmacy," "clinical pharmacy," "communication," "practical training," and "advanced education."
